Google Finance primarily relies on publicly available data feeds, which may not always be complete or perfectly synchronized across all exchanges and asset classes. This can lead to discrepancies, particularly for less liquid assets or investments with complex pricing structures.

Finally, user error plays a role. Manually entering transactions incorrectly, failing to update share quantities after corporate actions, or neglecting to include all investment accounts can all contribute to an inaccurate overall return calculation. Consistent and meticulous record-keeping is essential for getting a reliable performance overview.

While Google Finance provides a useful starting point for tracking investments, it’s crucial to understand its limitations and verify the accuracy of its calculations, particularly when making important financial decisions.
